America’s Rising Political Star: South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem

In four minutes of remarks addressing her refusal to lockdown her state to address COVID-19, Governor Kristi Noem delivered more pure-bred American wisdom than anyone we’ve heard in years.

We haven’t met her and so can’t base anything written below based on personal knowledge. But we know a rock-solid American patriot when we hear one, and Ms. Noem delivered.

“Our constitution ensures that the citizen’s right is protected. …

The people themselves are primarily responsible for their safety. They are the ones that are entrusted with expansive freedoms – they are free to exercise their rights to work, worship, and play – or to stay at home, or to conduct social distancing.”

“The calls to apply a one-size-fits all approach to this problem in South Dakota is herd mentality, not leadership”.

Wow. Commitment to upholding the Constitution. Recognizing the rights and responsibilities of free people. Trusting the people. Upholding constitutional federalism. Leading. With fortitude.

And no, she’s not ‘anti-science’.

“The science tells us we cannot “stop” the virus,” explained Noem, “but what we’re trying to do is to slow the spread, we’re trying to flatten the curve, and we’re trying to make sure that our people and our healthcare system is not overwhelmed.” (But without government orders and mandates and police state arrests.)

This isn’t a small state eccentricity. This is (or is what used to be known as) common sense in America—writ small or writ large. We’re not sheep; we don’t cower in the face of adversity of any kind; we don’t blithely dismiss good faith concerns about real dangers—we educate ourselves, and then we adapt and figure out how to overcome. We don’t sit around frozen in fear, waiting for some ruling class ‘better’ to tell us when it’s ok to live again.

For American patriots battered by the constant anti-American, hyper-panicked froth of the MSM…and worn down by politicians who can’t or won’t stand up to it, Governor Noem is a breath of fresh air. She is not about credentialism; she’s about the authenticity of the unique American character.

And if you take a look at her re-election margins after she first wins an office—whether State rep or Congresswoman—the people know and like the real deal.

Ms. Noem’s surely rising visibility readily brings to mind former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. No decent person would wish on Ms. Noem or any other human being the ruling class elitist crucifixion foisted on Palin for her similar stands for mainstream American values. But Palin blazed a trail and took the arrows that go with that role; maybe that was Palin’s purpose: to pave the way for the next courageous conservative woman leader—who looks an awful lot like Kristi Noem.

We don’t know if Governor Noem has national political aspirations, and wouldn’t be surprised if the raised-on-a-SD-farm, married mother of three would prefer to stay right at home in South Dakota, thank you very much.

But her country may someday be calling her.
