06 Jun Be Wary of ‘Kick the Can’ Narratives that Smooth Over or Ignore the Threat of Islam to America
It is notable and encouraging that in one of the first interviews after winning the Texas Attorney General runoff election, newly minted GOP candidate for Texas Attorney General, Mayes Middleton, said that “our biggest threat is Islamification. Sharia law is organized crime and I will treat it as such.” Sharia is the DNA of Islam, the entire structure of Islamic law, the system of governance intended to replace America’s laws and Constitution, a thousand+-year-old system that is utterly opposed to America’s founding ideal of God-given rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Soon-to-be Texas Attorney General Middleton is hardly alone in this recognition of the threat posed by Islamic aggressors on the ground in Texas.
Governor Greg Abbott spoke about the issue in a recent interview stating that “We are not going to allow the Islamification of Texas. We will not allow Muslim-only communities. We’re not going to allow no-go zones or anything like that…There was a referendum on the Republican primary ballot about completely banning statewide Sharia law, and that’s going to pass this next session when we get back in…next January.’
Governor Abbott was referring to the March 3rd Texas GOP primary Ballot Proposition 10 that stated, “Texas should prohibit sharia law,” which passed with a 95% majority, with more ‘Yes’ votes than were cast in total in the recent Cornyn/Paxton runoff!
So there’s an overwhelming populist and popular demand in Texas to resist Islamization. Texans are watching what is happening in the UK, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and many other western countries, AND watching what is happening in Dearborn Michigan, Minneapolis Minnesota, and Paterson New Jersey, and recognizing the push for America to accept or surrender to Islamic aggression. Texans want our leaders to stand up firmly, to resist Islamization without conditions or exceptions.
But there is a countervailing pressure to this populist demand to stand up for America, being pushed heavily on our elected politicians, think tanks, and other thought leaders. That pressure is to downplay the danger, or find a basis for accommodation with those pushing us to accept sharia, to pretend there is a basis for compromise with it, all being justifications for kicking the can down the road for future generations to deal with it. Excused or permitted under the guise of accommodation and diversity, sharia and Islamization will only get a deeper foothold in Texas and America.
One source of that pressure to downplay or compromise is deep-pocketed donors to elected politicians, think tanks, and other leaders, who don’t like any upset of the general status quo, and believe that nothing justifies any upset of the status quo. This is a very dangerous inclination as applied to evaluating the threat of Islam (see this post).
A similar aversion to taking strong stands on controversial issues also afflicts many politicians, as they fear wandering out of the safe so-called center will risk turning off voters. They may have Muslim donors; they may have Muslim constituents who notoriously vote as a bloc; they may have friendly and peaceful Muslim co-workers or neighbors. They may view anything controversial as problematic for purposes of re-election or election to higher office.
The result of all these influences creates a sort of collective Neville Chamberlain moment, leading to an insistence on the part of public officials up and down the hierarchy to find some form of accommodation that will allow for a pronouncement of ‘peace in our time’. But as with Hitler and the UK, there is no logical basis for concluding that peace can be achieved by accepting aggression.
Elsewhere on this Substack you can review the reasons why sharia is irreconcilable with America’s Declaration of Independence, Constitution and rule of law, and why the objection to sharia is not racist (Islam is not a race or an ethnicity; it is a comprehensive governing ideology involving elements of religion), or unkind to strangers (Muslims in America should welcome an emancipation proclamation modeled after Abraham Lincoln’s).
The focus of this post is on two substantive reasons for absolute and complete rejection of any narrative that downplays the threat of Islam, or promotes accommodation of sharia.
First, as to any narrative downplaying the threat—e.g., ‘Islam is fine; it’s just a few radicals that are acting out perversions or distortions of Islam’—there is no historical basis for this position, and no basis within the teachings of Islam for this claim. Sharia teaches jihad as the duty of the devout follower of Islam. The facts of the 1,400-year ongoing Islamic conquest justified and required by the teachings of Islam are there for anyone to study in books like “Sword and Scimitar” by Raymond Ibrahim (one of the world’s top experts on Islamization tactics and Islamic history and doctrine). The Quran and sharia are FILLED with verses requiring jihad – holy war – to bring infidels (non-Muslims) into submission to Islam. Quran 8:12 “Strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them (the unbelievers)”. Quran 2: 191-193: “Kill them wherever you find them …fight them until there is no more disbelief and worship is for Allah alone.”
It’s difficult if not impossible to find Islamic clerics publicly denouncing the above teachings of sharia, or the teaching of sharia that apostates should be put to death, or condemning violent jihad in pursuit of a global caliphate. That’s because those clerics cannot make genuine public denouncements of Islamic teachings because that would be a form of blasphemy (punishable under Islam by death). Imams in Texas and throughout America openly teach and preach that Islam is here in America to conquer, to replace America’s law with sharia. Wishful thinking on the part of secular non-Muslims cannot change that.
Sharia also cannot be amended or separated into good or bad parts; it is the teaching of Islam that no such amendment is allowable. There is no such division in Islam; Islamic clerics repeatedly make clear: there’s only one Islam, and no one can change it.
Not all Muslims pursue Islamic conquest and a global caliphate. Moderate individual Muslims exist, but moderate Islam exists only in the wishes of non-Muslim, usually secular, intellectuals.
The second reason there must be firm rejection of any accommodation of sharia is the 14 centuries of Islamic history that demonstrate three phases of Islamic immigration that have led to conquest. Embedded in these three phases is the pattern by which even minor accommodation of sharia ultimately leads to complete surrender to Islam.
All of that may sound over-dramatic, but the history of Islamic conquest through immigration is astutely summarized in this chart:
The UK and western Europe have experienced Phases One and Two, and are approaching fulfillment of Phase Three. Many parts of America are experiencing Phase One; Texas is arriving into Phase Two.
The sad reality is that some elected officials, from school board members to county commissioners to state and national representatives and senators on up to lieutenant governors and governors, simply do not want to honestly face the issues presented by sharia (Islamic law) and Islam in America. Even sadder, many of these officials who are professing Christians excuse their non-confrontational positions through contortions of Scripture. Jesus wasn’t ambiguous[1].
Any accommodation of sharia initiates the slow-motion suicide[2] of Texas and America—and the bastions of freedom they have always stood for. ‘We the people’ must respond with immediate, informed and uncompromising pushback against any and every suggested accommodation. Such pushback involves no ‘hate’ of any person or group of persons; it is born of love for the uniqueness and ‘exceptionalism’ of America as founded and a corresponding firm and unflinching resolve to preserve it.
The response to the efforts to Islamize Texas and America needs to be bigger than outlawing certain behaviors. It needs to be a robust rising up of patriots and leaders who take a stand that America will never submit to Islam, and will never accept sharia as a basis for American law or American culture. The alternative of kicking this can down America’s road will only lead to more pain and danger.
