As our friends at American Thinker recently noted here, the legal winds are shifting against websites that advocate conservative values, seeking, among other things, to make the site operators responsible for what commenters write. The commenting function at ACWT has not been especially active, though many of the comments are clearly heartfelt. Our preference would be to allow the comment function to blossom into a forum or community for the exchange of views. But until America more firmly renews its commitment to the rule of law, we will disable the comment function until further notice.

If Hillary Wins, Free Speech Will Suffer

This week the Southern Poverty Law Center labeled Ayaan Hirsi Ali an anti-Muslim extremist.   That’s like labeling Bill Clinton a loyal husband. Patently absurd.   While the SPLC’s statement is demonstrably ridiculous all by itself, it is also relevant to the potential presidency of Hillary Clinton, and to free speech.

TO THOSE TEMPTED TO GIVE UP ON SAVING AMERICA

At two of my recent talks, audience members asked variations of the same question: Is the America we love already lost?   They were deadly serious about the question, and genuinely despairing that the answer, they believe, is yes.   They were also clearly among those I would call ‘ordinary

Almost immediately voices of “reason” and “pragmatism” claim that this is impossible, too big a change to tackle, too risky in terms of reliable revenue flow to the government, or just too something. There is an unspoken,

GOVERNMENT BY THE CONSENT OF THE GOVERNED

We often talk and write about the building blocks of America: the ideas that have made America the beacon of freedom to the world—the destination for just about everyone who has tired of the tyranny and oppression that socialism and other ‘un-American’ systems impose on the people.   One of those building blocks
